Alan Thompson enters his 10th season as the Bellaire Women’s Soccer Head Coach, and his 14th season overall as a High School Women’s Head Soccer Coach (four years at Fort Bend Dulles). His career coaching record is 200-85-28, 140-54-17 at BHS. He is a five-time District 18-6A Coach of the Year (2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019), a 2018 Texas 6A Region III Coach of the Year finalist, a member of the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches, the Texas Girls Coaches Association, and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Coach Thompson has led the Cardinals to six consecutive District 18-6A championships and two straight UIL State Playoffs Bi-District titles.
Coach Thompson was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and grew up playing soccer, basketball, tennis, and baseball. He attended Columbus East High School (Columbus, Indiana) where he was a three-sport athlete and multiple All-State selection in basketball and tennis as well as an Academic All-Conference and All-State recipient. Thompson attended The University of Findlay (Findlay, Ohio) on scholarship to play basketball and tennis. He holds numerous University career tennis records, and is second in the school’s history in career wins (94). Thompson graduated with honors from Findlay (’01) with degrees in Psychology and Education with a specialization in Technical Writing.
Coach Thompson earned a Master’s degree in Educational Administration in 2004 and a Master’s degree in Counseling in 2005 from the University of Houston. He is also a current doctoral student in the Leadership in Higher Education program at St. Edwards University. Coach Thompson is the Associate Principal at Pin Oak Middle School. He is also Adjunct Faculty in the College of Education at the University of Houston where he teaches Classroom Management and Classroom Assessment.
In addition to coaching soccer, Coach Thompson also participates in and coaches other athletes in endurance sports. He has completed over 20 marathons, multiple ultra-marathons, and six full Ironman triathlons. He is currently attempting to qualify for the Boston marathon.
Thompson is married to wife Amber, Clinical Associate Professor and Associate Chair, College of Education at the University of Houston. The couple resides in Cinco Ranch and has four daughters, sophomore at Texas A&M University, Madeline, 19, 6 year old twins, Blaire and Quinn, and 3 year old, Kate Kinsley.
